Daily habits that will improve your life

It's very easy to get into a daily routine where we take care of the movements and just try to recover from them. Especially these days when the world is turned upside down and many of us are spending more time at home than ever before. However, when we let this normal routine take over our lives, there isn't much room for growth. Improving the quality of your life and living the one you truly love requires growing, challenging, and sometimes doing the hard things. Here are three daily habits you can follow to get out of your usual routine and start seeing a gradual improvement in your quality of life.

Do one uncomfortable thing every day

Nothing great happens in your comfort zone. It's time to get comfortable with discomfort and take on a new challenge every day. As we complete new challenges, we build trust. And that confidence starts to move that challenge into our comfort zone. Then our comfort zone begins to expand and it becomes easier to accomplish tasks that previously intimidated us.

Public speaking is a great example of this and one of the people's most common fears. The first time you stand in front of a crowd to give a presentation, many of us are horrified! But the more you practice, the easier it becomes. Especially with the help of an organization like Toastmasters International, you'll overcome that fear before you know it!

As you overcome the public rhetoric, you now have the space to stretch, once again, outside your comfort zone for a new challenge...and another...and another. This is how successful people get to where they are. They are ready to do the hardest part, even if they don't always feel like doing it. If they can do it, so can you.

Reflect daily on achievements and failures

One could argue that thinking about chess is common, but there is an important difference in how we think about it. We want to look at our failures, but we need to frame them in a growth mindset. Instead of viewing your failures with feelings of inadequacy and frustration, focus on what went wrong and how it can be improved next time. And celebrate well what happened, like the efforts you made. Use those feelings and knowledge to propel yourself from that failure to the next challenge, where you might succeed. Focus on failing fast and failing high - as long as you're heading in the right direction, you will inevitably succeed. And if you do fail to climb (i.e. fail to get more and more small hits each time), then consider pivoting; Maybe it's time to rethink your vision of what success looks like, or maybe there's a whole new approach that can get you there.

Now for the fun part: celebrate your achievements and progress! Think about what you accomplished today and be proud of it. There is always negativity in our minds and to live a happier life we need to focus on the positive. That's why it's so important to reframe our failures in a more positive light (as noted above) and celebrate our wins. Don't skimp on your achievements today! It could be a small victory like sticking to your daily exercise routine or something bigger like getting a big promotion. It doesn't matter if it's big or small, it's important.

Do something today and you'll thank yourself tomorrow

While it is true that we are best served by living in the present, we need to look into the future to move in the right direction. There is a balance to be found here and when you find what works best for you, you will notice that you are setting up the future release for you to succeed. It doesn't have to be a drastic thing, just small improvements each day that will accumulate as compound interest. Before you know it, you'll be looking at the life you've created for yourself the same way you look at the forget-me-nots you occasionally look at: wide-eyed and enthusiastic.
